A Level Business Tuition Built Around the Case Study

Business looks like the most approachable commerce subject and is often the one students underperform in. The content is readable, so preparation feels comfortable — until the paper asks for judgement about a specific business under specific pressure.

Ram Sir teaches Cambridge International AS & A Level Business online with the emphasis on applied reasoning: what this business should do, why, and what the risk of being wrong is.

What the classes cover

  • Business and its environment: enterprise, business structures, size, objectives and stakeholders.
  • People in organisations: management, motivation, leadership and human resource decisions.
  • Marketing: research, the mix, positioning and marketing strategy under constraints.
  • Operations and project management, including capacity, quality and inventory decisions.
  • Finance and accounting for Business: sources of finance, budgets, break-even, ratios and investment appraisal.
  • Strategic management at A Level: analysis tools, change management and strategic choice.

Command words decide the mark

Most lost marks in Business trace back to answering a different question from the one asked. Students are trained to read the command word as an instruction about depth.

  • Explain — mechanism and consequence, applied to the case.
  • Analyse — a developed chain of reasoning, not a list of points.
  • Evaluate or recommend — a supported judgement, with the strongest counter-argument acknowledged.
  • Calculate — correct workings, units and a stated conclusion from the number.

Business questions students ask

Do you teach Cambridge International A Level Business?

Yes. Business is one of the three commerce subjects Ram Sir teaches, alongside Accounting and Economics, following the Cambridge International AS and A Level structure.

How is case study technique taught?

Students learn to read the case for evidence first, mark the constraints the business faces, then answer using that evidence. Generic textbook answers score poorly, so every point is tied back to the business in the paper.

Is quantitative content covered in Business?

Yes. Break-even, investment appraisal, ratio interpretation, forecasting and capacity calculations are taught with the same workings discipline used in Accounting.
